What can you expect from the session

The session will roughly take 3-4 hours, or most of a morning, but we aim to work around you and your little one. There is no rush or haste at all to get those “perfect shots”. We will allow baby to dictate, so just relax and enjoy the session!

Snacks and a light lunch will be provided for the session, this is a day for you as parents to also be pampered.  Take the opportunity to have a well earned rest whilst we get to have a cheeky cuddle with baby. (All times below are guidelines only)

Additional information

In order to keep the little one sleepy and cosy the room will be heated to a very warm temperature, so you may want to wear appropriate clothing, a few layers that can be easily taken off.  Also due to the warm temperatures, baby may need to feed more often, so please bring additional milk supplies and be prepared to feed a little more than normal.

Try to keep their baby awake for an hour or so prior to coming in to the studio. A good way to have them do this is by giving their baby a bath. This is a great way for the babies to exercise their lungs and tire themselves out a bit. It also helps their hair to be nice and fluffy (if they have any!).

Newborns are used to the cramped conditions of the womb.  When they are wrapped tightly they feel secure and relaxed. We sometimes use this technique to calm baby; this also makes for very cute images.  However we have found that the less there is to distract from the baby the better the images, so we will remove as many clothes from baby as you are comfortable with.  Do not worry about baby making a mess it always happens we are fully used to babies and that’s just what they do!.

The womb is also a very loud place and newborns will sleep much more soundly if there is steady general noise in the room. Unfortunately this technique normally stops working after a little while. We may produce different sounds during the session, this will also help to distract from the noise of the camera and flash.

Remember that although our goal is to capture an amazing image, at the end of the day this is your precious new family member that you have entrusted to us.  No portrait is worth putting a baby at risk we will always use common sense and always make sure to have someone VERY close by spotting your baby. We will NEVER force a newborn into a pose.  We will sanitise our hands and faces well before starting the session, and make sure that all of our blankets are laundered after each use.  It is our job to get those amazing images but it is our mission to keep all Chumba babies safe.
